I remember when i was six years old and I was getting dressed to go to school and (1)I must have come out of my room looking sloppy with my shirt tucked out and my shoes untied, and my mother said to me, there's no way you're gonna get an A today with the way you look. Your appearance matters, not just how you look to other people, (2)but how you look and feel about yourself. So often I meet business owners that don't really understand that appearance matters. Now yes it's important for the business owner to look professional, and it's important for their business to look professional, to be clean, to have the windows washed, to have the floors be clean, (3)to have your staff look professional, but is that really what i'm talking about? When I say appearance matters, sure it's always important, but our looks aren't everything. How we feel we're presenting ourselves, and the level of professionalism that we're presenting ourselves to other people, will not only (4)reflect in how they engage with you, but how you engage with them. See, you wouldn't go to an interview in a pair of shorts, would you? Maybe if you were going to be a lifeguard. But we all know that when we go to an interview we be our best self, we dress to be our best self. We put on a tie, we put on a dress, or we comb our hair differently. We maybe have a little extra shave. (5)It's not because we're trying to make a good impression, only. It's because we want to go in feeling as confident as we possibly can. That's why appearance matters. It's not just for them, it's mostly for you.
