Focus on fluency

Speaking fluency is as important as vocabulary and grammar. Try to avoid hesitation, and if you can’t think of the perfect word, don’t worry and say it another way.

IELTS Speaking Part 2

Describe a time you were very happy.

You should say:

  • where you were

  • who you were with

  • what happened

  • and explain why you felt this way

You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.

Practise describing outdoor places

Many questions involve talking about an outdoor place. You may be asked about an outdoor activity, a town park, a place in the countryside, or other places.

2. Would it be better to live in a very hot country or a very cold country?

Past, Present & Future

Think about how things were in the past, how they are now and how they might be in the future. This will add depth to your answer and gives you a chance to show you can use tenses well.
