Model Answer:

While some people opt to eat out regularly, others usually cook for themselves and their families at home. In my opinion, it is preferable to prepare food at home for two main reasons. Firstly, homemade food is typically healthier and cleaner, as you can control the ingredients that are put into each dish, and secondly, cooking at home is much more economical, so the home cook is able to make significant savings compared to people who often dine out.

To begin with, preparing food at home is often a healthier option. Cooking at home allows you to source and select the ingredients yourself, which means that you can be sure about the quality of the products you include. While in a restaurant the cooks may use cheap and unhealthy ingredients, or use artificial flavourings to try to make dishes more tasty, at home the cook can select fresh, clean and natural ingredients. In this way, preparing food at home ensures that the meal is healthier and more nutritious. Furthermore, at home a person can guarantee that their food is prepared in a hygienic way. When eating out, it’s not easy to confirm the standards of cleanliness in the restaurant kitchen. This means that although restaurant food may be extremely tasty, there’s a higher chance of getting food poisoning.

Not only can home cooked food be much healthier, but it is usually much cheaper to make too. As a result, a person who prepares meals at home can save a lot of money. When cooking at home, we do our own shopping, preparation, and washing up. There’s no need to pay kitchen or service staff. Furthermore, a restaurant is a business and so must make a profit on the food it sells. It will therefore always pass on an additional fee on top of its costs to its customers. By preparing our own meals, we can avoid all these additional costs and consequently save funds for other important things.

In conclusion, homemade food is usually the best option because it is both lower cost, and better for our health. Obviously, it’s nice to treat ourselves to restaurant cuisine from time to time, but generally it’s a better option to create the best culinary experiences we can in our own kitchens and homes.
