Audioscript

Representative: Good morning, Saxon Tours, how can I help you?

Customer: Hi, good morning, I’m interested in your walking tour of Tansworth Town. I saw a leaflet advertising the tour and I was wondering if you could give me some more details about the tour and what’s involved.

Representative: Yes, of course. Well, our walking tour around Tansworth is a fantastic way to better get to know this lovely old town and it’s long history. We visit four important landmarks around the town on the tour. We’ll meet (Q1)in the town square where our guide will tell you about the history behind the mediaeval cross at its centre. Then she’ll show you some of the oldest buildings in town, which are located just a short walk away.

Next, we’ll go to the Church of St Bartholomew. (Q2)St Bartholomew’s is an ancient church that has a very interesting spire. Your guide will tell you the history of its construction, the famous fire of 1608, which badly damaged it, and we will also talk about some of the key figures in the town’s history, who are buried in the church’s graveyard.

Once we’re ready, we’ll continue to the east of the town, where there’s a farmers’ market. We organise the walking tour to coincide with the market, so you’ll be able to look around and see all of the fresh products. (Q3)The area is famous for producing really nice cheddar cheese, so I recommend trying some while you’re there.

After that, we go onto the Tansworth Arms pub, which is about a 10 minute walk away. According to legend, this quaint old pub has been serving alcohol continuously since the year 950. That’s where the tour ends but we recommend staying for lunch. (Q4)The pub has a great selection of traditional English pies. You’ll also find some nice ales on tap, including a few which are locally brewed.

Customer: That sounds great, and when is the next tour please?

Representative:Let’s see, we’re not going tomorrow but we have a tour going on Wednesday, (Q5)so that will be the 4th of August, starting at 11am.

Customer:Ok, fantastic, Wednesday would work for us, how should I book?

Representative:Great, you can book with me over the phone, or if you prefer, (Q6)we also have a website where you can pay for the ticket online.

Customer:And sorry, how much is a ticket?

Representative:The tour is 12 pounds for adults and 8 pounds for children. By the way, we don’t recommend the tour for children under 8 years old as it’s a long walk for younger kids.

Customer:Great, and how long does it last?

Representative:(Q7)The tour usually takes around 2 hours, give or take 15 minutes. The exact time depends on the speed of the walkers in the group. We’ll finish in the pub at about 1pm, so it’s a convenient time for lunch if you decide to stay.

Customer:Right, and I understand lunch is not included, but are there any extra costs I should be aware of?

Representative:No, you won’t need to pay for any entrance (Q8)fees or anything like that, but I’d recommend bringing a little extra cash in case you want to buy something at the farmer’s market, and for refreshments along the way. It can get quite hot in August, so you might want to buy a drink or an (Q9)ice cream while we’re walking. That reminds me, there’s a really nice ice cream shop which we’ll pass, and you’re welcome to pop in and grab something if you like.

Customer:I’m sure my kids will be interested in ice cream. And is there anything else we should bring?

Representative:The only other thing is to bring a (Q10)raincoat if it looks like it might rain. And don’t forget to wear comfortable walking shoes as you’ll be on your feet for a few hours.

Customer:Great, can I book with a credit card? I’d like to book for two adults and two kids please.
