WRITING
7. Letter to Friend (Informal)
You play on a sports team with some friends. One of your friends missed a match because he was in hospital. Write a letter to your friend to tell him about the match.
In your letter:
tell him/ her the result of the match
describe what the conditions were like
say how you felt about the match
Model Answer:
Dear Geoffrey,
I was very sorry to hear about your accident and hope you’re making a speedy recovery. The whole team misses you and we all hope you’ll be able to play again very soon.
You’ll be glad to hear that we beat Granville Football Club in our match this weekend. It was a tough game, especially because we didn’t have you in the side. As you know, not only does Granville FC have two excellent defenders, but they have a goalkeeper whose athleticism is renowned in the league, so it wasn’t easy to score. What’s more, the weather was awful, it was freezing and pouring with rain during the entire match. But, despite the terrible weather, there were lots of spectators and most of them were cheering for us, so that helped to spur us on.
It was a fast paced and competitive game so at full-time we were all absolutely exhausted but thrilled to be the victors. Henry Buchanan was particularly delighted because, believe it or not, he had scored a hat trick! To be honest though, I was glad when the game was over because it was so wet and cold.
The rest of the team send their best wishes. Get well soon!
All the best,
Craig
