IELTS Writing Task 1 Academic Chart, Diagram or Map

Model Answer:

The pie charts illustrate the percentages of people that used several different internet browsers across the globe in January 2010 and then in January 2020. In general, it is clear that the proportion of people using Internet Explorer fell most dramatically while the use of Google Chrome grew enormously compared to other internet browsers.

In January 2020 Internet Explorer was by far the most popular internet browser with a market share of slightly more than 50%. The second most used browser was Firefox, with about 30% of people using it. The other three browsers were not popular at this time, and Google Chrome only controlled about 5% of the market.

By 2020 the situation had changed significantly. Google Chrome had grown its market share to approximately 65% while Internet Explorer’s share of the market had shrunk to roughly 5%. A lot more people were using Safari too. Between 2010 and 2020 the percentage of Safari users increased from about 5% to about 20%. The use of Opera did not change greatly from 2010 to 2020 and was low, at about 2%, in both years.
