IELTS Writing Task 1 Academic Chart, Diagram or Map

Model Answer:

The chart illustrates how much apple juice and some other kinds of juice were consumed in a European country from 1990 to 2010. In general, it can be seen that there was a clear increase in the consumption of orange juice and cranberry juice over the period shown, while the amount of apple juice and pomegranate juice consumed in 2010 was approximately the same as in 1990.

During the period illustrated in the chart, the amount of apple juice drunk increased from 10ml per household per week to around 22ml. The rise in consumption was quite steady from 1990 to 1996, at which point it rocketed from around 15ml to about 24ml over a year. There was a similar jump in consumption of cranberry juice, but this took place between 2000 and 2001. In the case of apple juice, there was a short period between1990 and 1995 where consumption increased. However, consumption hit a plateau in1995 and then began falling significantly in 1997.

Between 1997 and 2010 the consumption of apple juice fell by almost half, from 25 millilitres to around 14 millilitres per household per week. The amount of pomegranate juice drunk never changed significantly, however there was a gradual increase in consumption and by 2010 the amount consumed had increased from around 2ml to 3ml.
