Model Answer:
The diagram illustrates how weather data is collected by the weather office and used to make a weather forecast. Overall, weather information is gathered from multiple sources, processed and used to prepare a forecast, which is then broadcast in various ways.
Initially, weather data is sent from radars, satellites and ocean buoys. The radar data is viewed on a radar screen, satellites send satellite imagery of movements in clouds, storms and other weather phenomena, while ocean buoys return data concerning movements in the ocean, including wave size and swell direction. By combining all of this data, synoptic charts can be produced. Next, these images and charts are processed on a computer and predictions are made about future changes in the weather..
Once all data has been collected and processed, and the weather forecast has been created, it is sent out to several places. The forecast is broadcast on the radio, on television and is made available on the internet. The public can therefore access this weather information in various ways.
