Model Answer:

The line graph compares how the usage of 5 types of internet browser developed between 2007 and 2019. It is clear from the chart that in general the popularity of Google Chrome grew massively during this period, while all other internet browsers lost market share.

In May 2007 the choice of internet browser was more limited with only 4 to choose from. At this time Internet Explorer was extremely popular and was used by approximately 70% of internet users. Firefox was the second most popular browser, with 25% of people using it. Safari and Opera were being used by a very small minority of people, with both having only a few percent of users.

In 2009 the internet browser market began to change dramatically. Google Chrome appeared and began to quickly take users from the other browsers. Between 2009 and 2016 the percent of internet users using Chrome soared from zero to almost fifty percent, while the proportion of people using Internet Explorer and Firefox plummeted. In 2016 the growth of Chrome hit a plateau and between 2016 and 2019 the proportion of users remained stable. However, during this time no other internet browser was able to take market share and the proportions of users of these stayed the same.
